Instrumenting your app for feedback

Where to install feedback widgets, how to gate them, and how to redact sensitive content.

A feedback widget is only useful if it's installed where reviewers actually find friction. Here's how the best teams instrument their apps.

Install everywhere reviewers click

Don't gate the widget to a single "feedback" page. The whole point of pinned feedback is to capture the bug at the moment of friction.

Gate by role, not by URL

Render the widget for staff, beta cohorts, or specific plan tiers. Pass the role at SDK init and the widget will respect it.

Redact sensitive content

Mark inputs containing PII or PHI with a redact attribute. The SDK will blur them in screenshots and strip them from console payloads.

Test in staging first

Run a one-sprint pilot in staging with a small reviewer cohort. Tune redaction and routing rules before going live.

Try the workflows you just read about.
